Do you know if the FA have any plans to reinforce play phase. I am a captain of play and love it, but I have also seen so many clubs coaching 4-6 year olds where they have them dribbling round cones and coaching in a more traditional way.
The games videos on england learning are great so I know info is out there.
Some coaches that I speak to don't get why you would coach football, without a child kicking a football. I think this is a common thought.
Tracey, thanks so much for engaging with our forum and apologies for the delay in responding. I, like you, am such an advocate of Play Phase as it attempts to maximise the development of our young children by adopting an approach that is perfect for where the child is developmentally AND an approach that is laying down some very important foundations for the future.
The Play Phase also advocates lots of 2v2 games so there is plenty of football but working alongside our Play framework ensures that the overall development of each child is addressed as well and this will be missing if the only focus is on football - there is plenty of time to do this but the Play framework begins the development of not just the body but the brain as well helping children become confident problem solvers in the future and this (no surprise here) IS GREAT FOR FOOTBALLERS TOO!!!
Keep being a brilliant Captain of Play as you are doing right by the children in your care. Pete
