Hi coaches
As the new season begins lots of our young players will be experiencing smaller formats for the first time. In my humble opinion this is a very good thing. The players will be involved more, be under less pressure (as the hope is we will move away from just one game towards a morning of football that involves multiple games). There will be more shots, saves, dribbles and tackles. Increasing the number of repetions will help players work out what the game demands and they will be able to tweak their responses to all of the different situations the game will throw at them. Our role is to support, encourage and praise as the players navigate their way through these smaller formats.
We are not alone in this "revolution". Our competitors have also recognised the value of smaller formats and I have attached some information to help you understand the scope of this change for our young players.
I hope you enjoy reading it and begin to discuss your thoughts on our forum.
